Hot Digity Dog

as most know i LOVE to cook. I'm always trying to find or create new ways to make my meals that add a twist and tang. so you can imagine how much fun i have with making cute meals for the kids. i always try to involve them in the cooking so i thought i would share this really creative way to make hotdogs and pasta.

i use whole wheat spaghetti and either turkey dogs or tofu dogs but you can use what you like. cute the dogs in bite size pieces and one by one stick the uncooked spaghetti through the dogs. i usually do about 6 or 7 pasta sticks per dog. also i usually cut the dog into smaller pieces and the pasta i usually break in half but its easier to see it the way i did in the picture below.

when your done you just put it in a pot of boiling water and cook until the pasta is done. drain the water and then you can serve tomato sauce or whatever else you like . i usually cook mine with some veggies and the mix it all with some freshly grated asiago cheese.

heres another way to cook them. i just poked the pasta in a row through a whole hotdog. we call them centipedes lol

Its All Fun And Games Till Some One Gets A Moon Pie In The Face!

I've been to my fair share of Mardi Gras parades so when we went to alabama i was thrilled that the kids could experience one of the south beloved traditions. it wasn't a REAL Mardi Gras parade but it was for New Years so more like a smaller version.

while walking through town i snapped a few shots of the people patiently waiting on the balconies of hotels, restaurants etc.

Jazzy found a HUGE maple leaf on the way so then of course Ridge wanted one as well. Jazzy spent a few minutes looking for one to make her little brother happy. how sweet is she!

that crazy lady with her hands up is my NaNa (grandma) and the head is C.J. my cousin. their both hoping to land some of them moon pies and beads. i told NaNa she might get more attention if she did it the old fashioned way with a lift of the shirt lol but she wasn't brave.

heres Ridge holding onto the gate waiting for some floats.
Theres the crazy lady again lol LOVE YOU NANA!!!

heres some students from a local high school. people are always surprised when i tell them that the south is still to this day segregated in many ways. schools are just one. as you see here these talented girls are all black, there whole school was black and then theres was another school that was all white students.

heres Daddy and Ridge. Daddy held little man up most of the time until he got pelted with a moon pie (marsh mellow filled cookie). by the way those people on the floats aren't very easy with throwing. i cant tell you how many times i got hit in the face. i do however blame this somewhat on my mother. she had been bugging me the whole time to send pictures so i was trying to text her over some and of course they go for the girl who  is stupid enough to be looking at a phone while objects are being hurled her way. stupid me!

this of course was Jayvins favorite float.

I'm asking Ridge where the fire works are. he responds with "i dont know"

A Christmas Letter. Better Late Then Never

*M*y body at last became a normal, functioning body again after having two children within 22 months. Rick and Anna became proud parents to Olivia Isabella On Dec 4th. Ridge was only 14 months at the time so it was definitely refreshing to have my body all to myself again.
*E*very thing happens for a reason so when Nathan decided to quit his job to go to school for engineering all we could do was hope for the best. Well our faith paid off because we are delighted with the results. Nathan is excelling while maintaining a GPA of 3.4.
*R*elationships whether it be family, spouse or friends can be an amazing thing. Nathan and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. Everyone has always said that they can’t believe how time has flown by for them but it really hadn’t for us. We took our time and didn’t get caught up in our day to day life and really enjoyed all the beauty within our relationship, family and children.
*R*esponsibility is something that I’ve always embraced. For years it was all about me being a mother but after my fourth baby I was asked by a previous job to come back to work. I immediately took on new responsibilities in managing, training and marketing. I have been able to work at home most of the time and actually work on site only about 4 or 5 days a month. We have loved being able to put the children first and have them stay home with us. Being their primary influence until school has been our main focus.
*Y*ou would be excited to know (at least we are) that the kids passed out of kindergarten and we have found a wonderful montessori school. After the first evaluation our teacher says they will be with several 6 year olds and some 7 year olds. They will be starting school this march so will be going in at the age of 4 but will be turning 5 two months after school starts.
*C*ry…cry….cry, that’s all I did after ridge’s crib was replaced with a big boy bed. Of course we are very proud of him and happy that he gets to experience just one of many milestones in life.
*H*ope and faith is something that as humans helps us strive to live and become better people. Hope is something that Nathan and I have strived to give people in hopes they will continue their faith in humanity and God. This year like many others we have donated our time, heart, effort and money into families and organizations. One being, the Street Light organization which helps fight against child sex slavery out in phoenix. This organization I am becoming more evolved in as a councilor and am taking all necessary courses to do so. By the end of the year I hope to have started my own organization to help, council, and educate single teen moms in how to become wiser in the hard world we live in making it possible for them to start making better decisions for themselves and their babies.
*R*oadtrips are something that our family really enjoys. This year we didn’t take very many but manage to get 5 trips up north in and 1 to Alabama. One of the trips was up to Greer to spend some time with the family up at the cabins and the rest were to flagstaff to take the kids to the snow. We went to Alabama to see my family and spend New Year’s with them. Being in Alabama has made Nathan and I want to move out of Arizona and we are now considering it.
*I* did this letter REALLY late but I’m glad I did cause even though it was just after New year’s when we went to Grandma and Grandpas farm I feel it is well worth adding in. I had been telling Nathan that I really wanted to go to Oklahoma and now that we have I really want to go back. The kids had a blast and it was so nice to be away from the city life, being with family and enjoying the simpler ways of life.
*S*chool work and kids have consumed most of our year so squeezing in days of fun to the zoo, museums, parks, fairs, festivals (my favorite being the chocolate festival), parades and more was a HUGE part of our year! I won’t go into detail on every activity but I assure you it was a BLAST!!
*T*aking a little off the top is an understatement. Ridge went from long, blond surfer hair to a military do in the matter of minutes. I cut it myself and of course saved some of his curly locks. He now sports a more fashionable fohawk.
*M*otivated to do more for others Nathan and I have become more involved in our church. We haven’t gone every Sunday and probably won’t this year either but we have taking our teachings and faith into our everyday life and became better parents, people, lovers and friends. We made more of an effort in 2010 to take classes through church to help us better understand each other and ourselves. What a blessing this has become.
*A*fter giving birth to my last 2 babies naturally (twins were by csection) I have decided to become a natural child birth teacher. It is something I’m passionate about and another thing I can do from the comfort of my own home. I plan on finishing my courses by this summer and will be on my way, educating more men and women about a less invasive, less business like, natural birth.
*S*o I’m not sure you would call this a highlight but Nathan insists it’s a must to document his success in completing his rubix cube. It only took him a couple hours and realized with the help of algorithms and patients, it came very easy to him. (this one’s just for you hunny =) )

Shrimp Boil, Unless You Ask My Mother And Then Its Bowl

Mom: did you know ya’ll are gonna be doin a shrimp bowl out there with Nana and them?
Me: what’s a shrimp bowl?
Mom: you know what a shrimp bowl is, you know where you have the potatoes and corn and shrimp and….
Me: oh, so it’s a type of food?
Mom: well ya you cook it all together
Me: wait, you mean boil??
Mom: ya, I shrimp bowl
Me: no mom its shrimp BOIL! You had me thinking you were talking about Alabama’s version of the super bowl or something I was very confused!
Now you can laugh at me all you want but you should be laughing at my mom. I mean there’s a rose bowl, fiesta bowl, super bowl, orange bowl, sugar bowl, iron bowl etc (and btw there really is a shrimp bowl) so it’s not that far fetched that I would assume that she was talking about some yearly event that Alabama has. Geeze mom even DeeDee and Nana say boil and they have some thick southern accents.

Anyways the shrimp boil was awesome! Papaw boiled some shrimp (I wanted the kids to learn how to pull the shells off but they weren’t into it) and potatoes, corn cobs and sausage all in a big pot with lots of spicy seasonings. It was DELISH! Nathan is in love with the southern foods and if I would have known that I would have been cooking it more. It’s so easy and simple. So needless to say I will be cooking it more for him. My favorite part was the black eye peas, I could eat those ALL day long! hers a picture of the black eyed peas! you have to eat them every new years eve for good luck!

here's the shrimp. it wouldn't be a shrimp boil with out these suckers

potatoes and corn!!

my NaNa washing the pot that we did the boil in. its huge!

Taylor Swift... Add Her To The Poo List

Disney, children’s dance studios, Santa,
medicated child birth, Hannah Montana, high school musical....(list could really
go on) but you know what else we can put on my rip my eyes out and pluck at my
ear drums till they explode if I ever have to see or hear this again list...
Taylor Swift! I really cannot stand her music, never have! When I usually tell
people this their jaws drop (I have that effect) well I finally found
someone who feels the same way that I do. Now I was going to write a blog about
her and why I think she should stick to just being pretty...or whatever else
she does but I decided that I would post a blog that I found on a friend of
mines blog. Evidently she feels the EXACT same way i do and says exactly what I
wanted to only better. her name is Camille and she is an amazingly funny,
honest and clever writer. I completely stalk her page

and yes I have her permission to
post this off her page

I realize I am
putting myself in great peril by announcing my unpopular feelings toward Taylor
Swift in front of the whole world.  However, this blog would not be my
blog if I withheld from you, dear readers.  I always blog about subjects I
feel passionately toward, and this is no different; I am passionate in my
distaste for Taylor Swift’s lyrics.

Now.
Before I continue, I would like to note that she seems like a very nice
person.  She is lovely, for sure, and I’ve heard that she is very
genuinely sweet.  That’s fine.  I’m not saying I hate her as a human
being, or even as a singer—I actually think she has a striking voice.  But
her lyrics—her teeny-bopper-stereotypical-clichéd-redundant-female-oppressing
lyrics—make me want to claw my eardrums out with splintery toothpicks, if only
to make them stop bouncing around in my brain.

See, I don’t
think Taylor Swift gives herself enough credit.  Her songs portray her as
a girl whose entire
sense of being
is wrapped up in whether or not a boy likes her at
any given moment.  And that is a quality I cannot respect in a woman.

Here is a
sample of some of her arguably most annoying lyrics:

…That I can’t
even see anyone when he’s with me… [Why not, is his brilliance so bright it has
blinded you?  That's a pity.]

…He’s the song
in the car I keep singing, don’t know why I do…  [Trust me---I'm wondering
the same thing.  If you don't know why you keep singing, maybe you should
stop.]

…Drew walks by
me, can he tell that I can’t breathe?…  [Not being able to breathe because
of Drew?  I could see being breathless at the sight of the Grand Canyon,
or God, but a pimply-faced teenage boy in your homeroom class who, for the
record, doesn't even know you exist?  That's just silly.]

…Romeo, save
me, I’ve been feeling so alone, I keep waiting for you but you never
come…  [That's because he never will.  Save yourself.]

…But she wears
short skirts, I wear T-shirts

She’s Cheer Captain and I’m on the bleachers

Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find

That what you’re looking for has been here the whole time… [But will you really
want to be with him after he's ignored you all this time?]

It disgusts me,
and it’s not just her lyrics, either—it’s the central theme in all her videos,
too.  In the music video for her song “White Horse,” for example, she apologizes
to her cheating boyfriend for not being able to forgive him.  And then she
spends three-quarters of the movie sitting on the floor weeping about it.

That was the
last straw for me.

YOU’RE
SORRY?  He’s the bastard who cheated on you; you have nothing to be sorry
for!  Moreover, why are you sitting there SOBBING about it?  He’s
obviously a jerk, and you have so much going for you!  You do not need
him.  I repeat: YOU do NOT NEED HIM to be happy.

That’s the
thing about Taylor Swift’s songs—they’re all about boys.  Nice boys, mean
boys, dream boys, imaginary boys.  It’s a bit excessive.  Every time
one of her songs comes on the satellite radio in Poor Kyle’s truck, I listen to
the words and invariably come to the same conclusion: “This girl needs to learn
who SHE is, aside from the influence of boys.”  For example: she talks
about princesses in a lot of her songs, which is fine.  If she wants to be
a princess (I can’t blame her), by all means, be a princess—but why does she
talk about being a princess only in relation to the handsome young princes who
she hopes will come rescue her and make all her dreams come true?  Doesn’t
she know that she should make her OWN dreams come true?  That she has the
power to do that all by herself?  Hasn’t anybody ever told her that?

No, obviously
not.  Because according to Taylor swift, who sings, “Well, I’m only me
when I’m with you,” she is only herself when she is with a boy.

I firmly
believe that girls need to know who they are, apart from boys.  I know
about being boy-crazy; I know about being a teenage girl (it wasn’t long ago I
was one) who wishes that someone would just come along and hold my hand and
make me happy.  I know that—I struggled with that from the age of twelve
or thirteen to the time I was sixteen.  Luckily for me, I was able to
eventually break free from those ridiculous notions of “Gee, if only I had a
boyfriend, I would be happy,” and learned to think, “I am happy to be me, and
any guy would be lucky to date me.”

It’s not that I
don’t believe in love or romance.  It’s just that I know I can live
without it.  I maintain that I am actually a better partner to my husband
because of this belief.  Sure, sometimes I feel sad because of things he
does (like consistently failing to place his dirty socks in the hamper), but my
overarching happiness is up to me.  If he ever gets a hankering to be with
a younger, lovelier woman, it would be his loss.  Not mine.  I might
be sad for a long time, but I know that eventually, because I knew who I was
before I ever even met him, I know I would still have my self to cling
to.  He does not have the power to make me a sad person.  Only I have that power

And that’s why,
when Taylor Swift sings, “I’m only me when I’m with you,” I change the radio to
another station.  Poor Kyle hates when I do that, but I don’t know what
else to do.

Disney On My Poo List!

thank you
Krystal
As
I waited for the color to set in my hair the lady gave a stack of magazines to
thumb through. I usually pass up this opportunity to educate myself on the drama
fest of people and Ok magazine. With the few brain cells my pregnancies have
left me I try to stay away from the things that simply suck the logic out of
me. But I came across a Redbook Magazine in the stack which I had never read
before so thought I’d give it a try, after all I can’t sit there for 30 minutes
pretending to not listen to the lady next to me talking about her love
triangle, I think she caught on.. An article on the front called little girls
gone wild caught my eye and I immediately went through and started reading it. It
was amazing to see an article, in a fashion magazine at that with the same view
I have about little girls/divas now days. As many know I’m anti Disney princess
(and don’t get me started on Bratz and most barbies) . I think that Disney princesses
give off a wrong impression. They all are lost in some way. They all need to be
saved. They all find their knight in shining armor (or however he may be
dressed). And they all kiss in the end with that stupid look of love between
them and that nothing matters as long as you’re “the fairest of them all”. And
what I’m just beginning to realize is this:

You can’t really tell
how old the princesses are can you!?!? Or Barbie…
NO,
you can’t. The only one, I believe, who mentions her age is Ariel. Disobeying
her father at a ripe old age of 16. All of these Princesses look young and
girls can see themselves playing the part.

This article went on about a
little girls spa at Disney land where you can take your little princess and
they will paint her with makeup, shower her in glitter, put princess heels on
her and will put more bobby pins in her hair it gives me headache just thinking
about it, and don’t forget the ultimate spa experience of a mani/pedi combo. Now
it may sound innocent enough but when you really think about it what message is
this sending? Why can’t they just have tea, and maybe some story time with the princesses,
call me old fashioned but why must it be a drag queen showdown. Don’t get me
wrong I know that little girls have played dress up for as long as we can all remember
but I remember the day when we dressed up in our mothers dresses with gaudy
costume jewelry but these girls are trying to emulate another women who Disney has
made to look flawless and wanted by all men, beast and prince alike. In reality
though it’s our faults as mothers that we have 4 year olds who knows what fat is
and 5 year olds booty popping to “all the single ladies” on stage for dance recitals
(dance classes now days could make up a whole other blog bashing for me I HATE MOST OF THEM)
. Our girls have been taught to think that’s what makes
a real women.
There are many other things out
there that I feel over sexualizing our daughters at such a young age but I felt
the need to write about Disney this blog. I found a video that I feel points
out a lot of what’s wrong with Disney for not only girls but little boys as
well.
times have changed from the 30's 40's and 50's and i know that back in those days this was the roles that men and women were expected to play. however up until the princess and the frog i have yet to see a change in the disney movies. they have made movies less about princesses and more about even more nonsence (we wont get into it now) but with a change of time i dont feel its still appropriate to instille these past ways into our daughters now.
